As seniors work on completing their college applications, some are also preparing for interviews with admissions representatives or alumni from their prospective colleges. Preparing for an interview can feel quite intimidating but a little preparation can go a long way in easing those nerves and helping your true self shine through. Julie Carter, a fellow member of the Southern Association of College and Admissions Counselors (SACAC), shared nine great tips for successfully navigating an interview on SACAC's blog last year. Read more below to learn about these tips and prepare for your interview. How to Wow Your Interviewers
Author: Julie Carter Source: http://www.sacac.org/blog/ Date: 12/15/2016 Many colleges require (or offer an optional) interview as a part of your admissions process and/or for special programs. While the interview itself is rarely the deciding factor in admissions considerations, it can be a great opportunity to help a college representative get to know you better. The interview gives you the chance to express your interest in person, but more importantly to explain why you’d be a great match for the college community, convey how you’d contribute to the student population, and show more of who you are than your application alone may convey. Perhaps the idea of an interview strikes panic into your heart. Well, fear not, brave senior. With a little forethought and preparation, you can rock your interviews. *Interview skills are valuable to you far beyond college admissions! These tips apply to most any interview situation you’ll encounter in the coming years. 1. Try to relax. Interviews are intended to be normal, basic conversations; the interviewer is not trying to stump you or throw you for a loop.
